About this guide
Last reviewed · verify live park facts with NPWS SA
mountremarkablenationalpark.com.au is an independent, unofficial visitor guide. We help people plan the 960 m summit from Melrose, Alligator Gorge and The Narrows, Mambray Creek camping, Willowie / Epic Trail logistics and Southern Flinders days — with a practical focus on two fee systems, three gates, fire-season overnight bans and patchy mobile coverage.
We are not National Parks and Wildlife Service South Australia (NPWS SA), the Department for Environment and Water, the South Australian Government, the Country Fire Service, or any Traditional Owner representative body acting in an official capacity.
Country
We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of Southern Flinders Country, including Nukunu / Wapma Thura context as published by land managers. Aboriginal people have managed this Country for thousands of generations. Visitors should not touch or remove anything and should take all rubbish out. This site does not invent cultural protocols or speak for Traditional Owners. Verify current acknowledgment wording on official NPWS SA pages before treating any phrase as authoritative.

Help people plan Mount Remarkable days and overnights — summit from Melrose, Alligator Gorge / The Narrows, Mambray Creek camping, heat, fire danger and yellow-footed rock-wallaby viewing etiquette — while funding free guides through clearly disclosed ads and affiliates. Official vehicle entry and camping bookings are never affiliated.
How we work (accuracy policy)
We pull park facts from National Parks and Wildlife Service South Australia public pages, then write them as practical visitor advice: vehicle entry versus camping as separate systems, the three entrances (Mambray Creek, Alligator Gorge, Melrose), summit and gorge logistics, fire-season overnight bans, and patchy mobile coverage. We do not guess live track status or treat fee tables as permanent.
- Distances, grades, fees, fire-danger dates, pest-control windows and open/closed status must be verified on official NPWS SA pages and closures and alerts before you travel. We never invent live closures.
- Vehicle entry and camping are described as separate systems from official public pages. Amounts change — never treat this site as a live fee table. Official camping is booked only on parks.sa.gov.au.
- Fire-danger season overnight hiking bans, Catastrophic closures and CFS ratings are snapshots with review dates — not a live feed. Use CFS the morning you go.
- Site-wide content review date: . Fact audit 13 September 2026: parks.sa.gov.au still listed vehicle entry $14.40 per vehicle and accommodation from $27.50 per night; camping booked separately before arrival. Fire-recovery alert (updated 27 July 2026) still lists Ali Lookout Walk/platform and Alligator Lodge closed; park banner still notes a section of Alligator Gorge. Pest-control full closures 1–6 Nov 2026 (published 20 Aug 2026) and 15–20 Nov 2026. Last published Flinders fire-danger season 1 Nov 2025–15 Apr 2026 has ended; overnight/backpack rules return with the next CFS season. Last published wood-fire pit ban at Mambray/Baroota was 16 Oct 2025–1 Apr 2026 (ended). Live alerts still change — use parks.sa.gov.au and CFS.

National Parks Guide Australia network
This is one deep park guide in the National Parks Guide Australia network of independent Australian national park visitor guides. Network language belongs here and in the footer — not in the site byline. The hub is nationalparksguide.com.au.
Browse all parks → nationalparksguide.com.au
On the hub, this park belongs on collections that would be false for a random sister: not a casual Adelaide lookout hop, official Mambray camping as a separate fee system, and Southern Flinders wildlife (yellow-footed rock-wallaby country).
- Wildlife national parks — Yellow-footed rock-wallabies (Sugar Gum Lookout), lace monitors, echidnas and 117+ bird species — a Southern Flinders wildlife park, not a coastal koala stop.
- Not a capital day-trip — Official ~263 km / ~3–3.5 hr from Adelaide. A same-day return can work for one short stop; most people overnight at Melrose or Mambray Creek.
- Overnight camping — Mambray Creek (49 sites, showers) and Baroota Ruins are official pre-booked campgrounds — separate from the vehicle entry fee.
